Compared to the technology that came before it, LED is a better light product that’s much better for our planet.  However, there is an emerging understanding that LED light can have a profound effect on our biological health. Exposure to the proper quality of light, when awake, brings about a feeling of alertness and vigor. Similarly, exposure to light at night keeps one alert, delays sleep mode and may even be a cause for future health problems.

More Than the Eye Can See

Our body process visible light, also known as photopic light, through our eyes. Rod and cone photoreceptors, when stimulated, generate neurological signals upon which our visual cortex perceives light. This type of light has an impact not just on our vision, but also on how we feel. It is typically measured as color temperature.

Our body also has a non-visual response to light, called melanopic sensitivity, which occurs through a completely different set of receptors which regulate our circadian rhythms–the internal alarm clock that lets our bodies know when to rest and when to be alert. It helps us get a better night’s sleep and produce melatonin, which our body’s immune system needs to fight off disease. You can’t see this light, but you can definitely feel it.

Aurea uses a patented luminescent dye to convert traditional low cost high-efficiency blue LEDs into a light that is in sync with the body’s psychological and biological needs and can do so without sacrificing energy efficiency or light quality.

Other human-centric or circadian-friendly lighting products simply filter the LED light, which reduces energy efficiency. Our technology converts the light and re-emits it with no energy lost.
